Emotional: adj. 1.  Of or relating to the emotions // Aimed at the arousing of emotion  characterized by intense feeling. Currency:  noun 1.  Something that is used as a medium of exchange.  2. The fact or quality of being widely accepted & circulated from person to person.

This body of work is non-objective abstract and, while being aware of the composition, color, and texture,  I am portraying emotions as opposed to recognizable objects.

The emotions I am transferring from my mind/hand/pallet knife may not be the same emotions the viewer feels.  Each individual will experience a different reaction.  They may feel something powerful, sadness, joy or even indifference.  And they may not know why.  This is dependent upon one’s ability to be aware and process their own emotions.  Through the medium of paint, I am offering my emotions in exchange for the viewers’ reactions.

In the words of Jasper Johns: “I think that what one wants from painting is a sense of life.  The final suggestion, the final statement has to be not a deliberate statement but a helpless statement.  It has to be what you can’t help avoid saying, not what you set out to say.”
